5-12-13 Fishing in Islamorada

Hey Everybody! Sorry I’ve been slacking on my Islamorada Fishing Report the last few weeks. My excuse it that I have been fishing 6 days a week and haven’t had much time to get on the computer. The overall bite has been pretty good though! We have had some really good days on mahi and a handful of decent days. The reef fishing for snapper has been great too. We have been catching 30 to 40 yellowtail snapper most trips, and a couple mutton snapper have been mixed in to. We’ve caught a few swordfish the last few weeks as well. One trip yielded two broadbill and the other two trips both produced one. As we approach the summer months we will focus more on mahi and deep water bottom fish, like this barrel fish we caught the other day, as well as swordfish. We also had a great day finding a piece of wood two weeks ago where we caught 7 wahoo up to 15 lbs off of it as well as 20 mahi up to 22 lbs.

5/8/13 May fishing in Islamorada report

Well the may fishing in islamorada is off to a good start.  Today was gorgeous flat calm and lots of fish out there.  We started off with small guys, lots of ladyfish to bend the rod plus a few trout.  We then moved to some backcountry channels for some may florida keys tarpon fishing.  The bite was ‘on’!  We caught 4 out of 6 big tarpon in about 2 hours plus several blacktip sharks.  After this we went in the gulf for some tripletails.  They were a little spooky and we only caught a couple, so my anglers asked to try something else.  Normally I would of kept going but alas I wanted to try something different.  We went around some islands for redfish and snook and found a load!  We got about 10 nice reds and only 1 snook, but spooked out plenty more as my big 20 footer isn’t the quietest getting into shallow island spots, but next time we will be more ready.  On the way home we even caught a few mangrove snappers.  Great day here fishing in the florida keys!

4/29/13 Islamorada Tarpon Fishing Report

Michel came all the way from Holland to go tarpon fishing in Islamorada with me.  We were loaded up with fresh mullets and live ones too.  We stayed close to home as the winds were high and the rain and lightning was around too.  Ended up getting chased in briefly by it but it didn’t deter us from accomplishing our mission – to catch Michel some big florida keys tarpon fishing with Capt. Rick Stanczyk!  He had a great day we landed 5 big fish from 60 to 100 lbs, plus another 5 or so bites we missed.  It doesn’t get much better than this as we get close to may tarpon fishing islamorada.  We are going for more of the same tomorrow, bait was relatively easy this afternoon so we spent some times acquiring more mullet.  If your looking to go tarpon fishing let me know I still have some evening tarpon fishing in the florida keys trips available – tides are great the next several evenings too!

4/28/13 Still great tarpon fishing in Islamorada in April!

Been very busy tough to keep up to date with the blogs… but we’ve been catching lots of april tarpon fishing in Islamorada.  Full day trips mostly is what I’ve been doing and booked everyday, though the night tarpon fishing islamorada is a good bet as well.  Today we released 4 big tarpon out of 6 or so bites all fishing locally in downtown Islamorada.  The fresh mullet have been key to have and most days have been plentiful.  Some days we load up early and are ready to go, other days it pays off to look around and spend some time catching bait.  A couple days ago I fished with some friends and we caught 2 big tarpon in a couple hours, also a lot of mangrove snappers for dinner.  The day before that we had another big day with 4 tarpon.  Every other day we have had multiple tarpon to the boat as well, it truly has been a great tarpon fishing season in the Florida Keys.  Tarpon is the word here in the Florida Keys in April.

4-25-13 offshore fishing report for Islamorada

We’ve had some great catches aboard the Bn’M the past week while offshore fishing in Islamorada. My last trip out we went daytime swordfishing and had 2 good bites and luckily caught both of them. They can be tricky to hook with 2000′ of line out, when they are down deep near the bottom. We also had 3 big mahi to 25 lbs. We went fishing for sharks in Islamorada 3 of the past 7 days as well and caught some sea monsters. We had tiger sharks, bull sharks, and a hammerhead. Some of these beasts have been up to 700 lbs. We’ve caught as many amberjack as you could handle as well, from 30 to 60 lbs. The mahi bite is just starting to get a little better each week, still not swarming since we’ve had a couple slower days, but we have done decent on all of our trips for them. We did swordfish a few days ago as well and never had strike, but hey, that’s why its called fishing. On the reef we have caught yellowtail and mangrove snapper, a few permit, and had a decent cobia the other day. We should start going offshore more and more in search of mahi and tuna as we approach summer. When you’re ready to go out for an islamorada fishing trip send me and email and I’ll hook you up!
