6/28/13 Tarpon Fishing Islamorada End of June

Well tarpon fishing in islamorada in june is still the staple of my fishing business.  We haven’t had the big numbers of fish or catches as we did in April, however we are still getting them consistently.  Way back in the everglades during the day a good mix of tarpon, sharks, big mud marlin, goliath groupers, and even cobias have been being caught most every day.  Last week the start of the falling tide in the local Islamorada area yielded me a tarpon every day that I fished it, now the falling tide isn’t starting until closer to our evening trip times.  However the last 2 nights I fished evening trips we caught 2 out of 3 tarpon, and last night we got 2 out of 4 tarpon.  There has even been a few mud marlin caught here close by which is incredible as well as some different sharks.  Evening tarpon fishing Islamorada can still be very good this time of year especially fishing live crabs, but I recommend planning around the falling tides which I can help you out with.  Early July is still pretty slammed busy for me I have a couple dates open the 2nd week, and then end of July after the 15th I have plenty of open time.  Email or call me now to lock something in for sume good summer fishing in Islamorada!  Tarpon, sharks, goliath groupers, and big mud marlin are all possible plus shots at several other backcountry species including permit or snook can be had too.

6-26-13 Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Report

I’ve been slammed with islamorada deep sea fishing charters the past couple of weeks and wanted to give you an honest report of what’s really been biting out there! On the reef there’s been lots of yellowtail snapper, as well as a few big mutton snapper mixed in. Offshore the mahi mahi bite has been decent to good overall. Some days are a little better than others, but we’ve been averaging about 20 fish a trip, a couple big fish (20-30 lbs) and the rest will be schoolies and a few gaffers. On the hump we have been doing very well on blackfin tuna, not a lot of big ones, but plenty of footballs in the 4-5 lb range. The daytime swordfish bite has been a little hit and miss, but we did catch 2 swords last week, both over 100 lbs, and we released a mako shark close to 200 lbs. Let me know when you’re ready to get out fishing off Islamorada and we’ll set you up.

6/21/13 Summer time fishing in Islamorada

Well it is officially summer time here in islamorada.  The backcountry fishing in summer can still be good though often is hit or miss as the warm temperatures can make fishing change day to day.  Yesterday we went fun fishing at cape sable and hooked several nice snook probably 8 in total though weren’t able to land any they all got us in the trees and a few may have been eaten by sharks.  Today we caught plenty of little guys such as trout, ladyfish, snappers, and a few spanish mackerels even.  A couple sharks, mud marlin, and a big tarpon to end the day was nice.  Also got a cobia.  The tarpon fishing had been good in the backcountry though today the fish were not to be found, we ended up getting ours near home in Islamorada.  Some of the fly guys reported tough fishing today though a couple days ago a lot of fish were moving along the shorelines and biting live bait good in the channels – as I said it changes day to day!  Give me a call if fishing in islamorada in july is of interest, later evening tarpon trips are possible as I am not fishing every day that time of year and the bite can be better when it cools off and gets dark!

6/11/13 June backcountry fishing in Islamorada

Well the fishing has been a little tough on the backside the past week or so.  We’ve been able to catch some things though nothing has come easy not even the trout or ladyfish!  Today things got much better we fished the gulf of mexico as it was nice and calm.  The water has had a real green tinge to it and that has lightened a little bit, a lot of grass floating but starting to thin out with the winds dying.  We caught lots of big sharks – bulls, blacktips, and even a lemon.  We caught a nice permit as well and had several other shots at them though they were very finicky.  Wouldn’t eat crabs, and the one we caught we were casting at another fish and this one ate it blindly from underneath.  We did get a cobia too and had another nice cobia we pulled the hooks on unfortunately.  Some guys got into some tarpon today too which is nice to hear as the tarpon bite during the day has been very slow not many fish in the backcountry and the local islamorada fish are very hit or miss unless you go very early or late (in darkness!).  Oh well the june fishing in the florida keys can still be very good and later in the summer the fishing in the gulf for permit is a great option on calm days with falling tides!

6-3-13 Fishing in Islamorada

Well the busy season in Islamorada still continues into June. I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to post my Islamorada Fishing Reports, but here’s what I have to say for the last few weeks! We’ve had some incredible mahi fishing this year. Not every day has been great, but we’ve caught more nice size fish cows and nice bulls (15-30 lbs) this season in a month than I did all of last year! The Reef Fishing has also been great lately! We have been catching plenty of yellowtail snapper, a few mutton snappers, lots of vermillion snapper, and a few black groupers. The Permit on the wrecks have been a little tricky, but we out smarted this one a few days ago with a live crab. Offshore the Swordfish had my number for a few trips in a row, but yesterday we turned the tables on the them and caught and released 2 fish. We had 2 bites on 7 drifts. They weren’t monsters, one about 40 and one about 60 lbs. The blackfin tuna have been thin this year so far. We caught a handful of wahoo lately, some on debris offshore and one trolling about 10 days ago. As we get into summer we will continue to go offshore for mahi, tuna, and swordfish. The reef should still provide action, but if the water gets really clean (as it does often in the summer) the fish do get tougher to catch.
