5-12-13 Fishing in Islamorada

Hey Everybody! Sorry I’ve been slacking on my Islamorada Fishing Report the last few weeks. My excuse it that I have been fishing 6 days a week and haven’t had much time to get on the computer. The overall bite has been pretty good though! We have had some really good days on mahi and a handful of decent days. The reef fishing for snapper has been great too. We have been catching 30 to 40 yellowtail snapper most trips, and a couple mutton snapper have been mixed in to. We’ve caught a few swordfish the last few weeks as well. One trip yielded two broadbill and the other two trips both produced one. As we approach the summer months we will focus more on mahi and deep water bottom fish, like this barrel fish we caught the other day, as well as swordfish. We also had a great day finding a piece of wood two weeks ago where we caught 7 wahoo up to 15 lbs off of it as well as 20 mahi up to 22 lbs.

4-25-13 offshore fishing report for Islamorada

We’ve had some great catches aboard the Bn’M the past week while offshore fishing in Islamorada. My last trip out we went daytime swordfishing and had 2 good bites and luckily caught both of them. They can be tricky to hook with 2000′ of line out, when they are down deep near the bottom. We also had 3 big mahi to 25 lbs. We went fishing for sharks in Islamorada 3 of the past 7 days as well and caught some sea monsters. We had tiger sharks, bull sharks, and a hammerhead. Some of these beasts have been up to 700 lbs. We’ve caught as many amberjack as you could handle as well, from 30 to 60 lbs. The mahi bite is just starting to get a little better each week, still not swarming since we’ve had a couple slower days, but we have done decent on all of our trips for them. We did swordfish a few days ago as well and never had strike, but hey, that’s why its called fishing. On the reef we have caught yellowtail and mangrove snapper, a few permit, and had a decent cobia the other day. We should start going offshore more and more in search of mahi and tuna as we approach summer. When you’re ready to go out for an islamorada fishing trip send me and email and I’ll hook you up!

4-18-13 Offshore and Reef Fishing Report in Islamorada

It’s been a busy season here while Fishing in Islamorada this year. I’ve been getting out 5 – 6 days a week lately and have had some good fishing. My first trip out for mahi was great. We fished a few days ago and hit a couple big schools of fish and kept 35 fish. None were huge but they were keepers and we didn’t have to measure any, we gaffed a few in the 5 to 7 lb range. We also caught a handful of tile fish. The shark fishing in Islamorada has been red hot. I’ve caught and released 6 tiger sharks, 1 hammerhead, and 1 brown shark my last three trips combined. On the Reef there continues to be some permit around, but they have been a little tricky my last few trips. We been catching a variety of snapper including vermillion, lane, and yellowtail lately. There’s also been some barracuda for action. The amberjack bite is in full swing and if you want a back breaking fight and something that pulls hard you need to catch one of these bad boys! They have been from 25 – 50 lbs. The mahi bite will hopefully become consistent soon, since April is still a little inconsistent as a rule. If you come down for some April islamorada fishing be ready to do a little bit of everything, because Spring time fishing means a little bit of a lot of fish usually. The conditions change day to day, and you should go for whats biting the best to have the most enjoyable islamorada offshore charter possible! 4-8-13 Offshore Fishing Islamorada

Fishing in Islamorada has been pretty good the first week of April. Not every day has been a home run, but we’ve had action every trip and there’s been some good quality fish around. Today we had a very slow start to the day, and finally boated our first fish at 11:30! It was a nice 50 lb amberjack, followed by a 30 lber. After that we looked for some mahi, and after 20 minutes came across a school, but they didn’t want to bite very well. We caught a couple, and but just one keeper. It was just enough to feed our couple though, so they were happy! We decided to head back to the reef edge after that and right when we got in a saw a pack of sailfish swimming down sea. We struggle with live bait this morning, but did have a few left over from the day before. We managed two bites from the pack and caught and released one of them. After that a fellow fisherman gave us a few left over baits that they had. Next we tried for some permit and released 3 in all, with a pair of them around 30 lbs! We weren’t done yet though. We also hooked a double header sailfish and released both of them too! It wound up being a great day of Islamorada Fishing! Yesterday we started out by catching some nice vermillion snapper, and then did some trolling. We caught a pair of mahi, and one was a nice 20 lb bull. On the way home we stopped at a spot and sure enough saw some permit. Within 2 minutes we were hooked up! After a 20 minute battle on 15 lb test, Long time Bud n’ Mary’s Marina customer Tom, landed and released his biggest permit ever! A big 31 lber! The days before that we released some sharks, including this nice hammerhead, we caught some king mackerel, barracuda, and plenty of snapper. The sails have been a little tough the past month, but you never know when it’s going to be your day! So when your ready to get out fishing shoot me an email!

4-1-13 Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada

I have been slammed the past couple of weeks so my Islamorada Fishing Report is a little late. I’ll start with today and give you a basic run down of what we’ve been catching overall the past couple of weeks while offshore fishing islamorada. Today we went “offshore” and caught and released a big tiger shark about 500 lbs, and also had a few tilefish, porgy, a snowy grouper, a couple almaco jacks, a few vermillion snapper, and a 55 lb amberjack. On the Reef lately the king mackerel bite has been pretty good, although there was a few slower days mixed in. Yesterday we had our limit of king mackerel to 24 lbs. We also had a pair of cobia at 24 and 40 lbs. The cobia bite has been fair lately, it’s definitely a hunting game and you have to put your time in looking, we don’t catch them every day, but it does pay off to look inside the reef, in the shallow waters for a little while every day. The snapper bite has been pretty good lately too, lots of nice lane snappers and quite a few yellowtail snapper most days. We also caught a nice 27 lb african pomano last week as well as a 275 lb goliath grouper which we released. We will start heading offshore further in search of mahi soon, as well as blackfin tuna, but most of our days have still be spent on the reef lately. I also saw some permit yesterday near a wreck, so we should start catching a few of those as they live on some of the wrecks in the Spring.
