October Offshore Fishing Islamorada Florida

It’s been a mixed bag of fish here while fishing in Islamorada in October 2014! The swordfish bite has been as exciting as ever! We’ve caught fish our past 13 trips in a row since Mid September! We have released many of the fish, and have kept some for dinner, with the biggest pushing 200 lbs! Most trips have been 2 – 3 fish but we did have 5 on one, and a few with 1 fish. We will start fishing the reef and wrecks more and more the next few months. The sailfish will be the next exciting fish of the season that we target. There’s still some blackfin tuna and mahi around, although the mahi will thin out as we get into November. We should start catching some more grouper, wahoo, and king mackerel as the water cools too. Shoot me an email to bnmcharters@gmail.com when you’re ready to set up your private fishing charter in Islamorada!

The Mahi bite has been incredible this August while fishing in Islamorada.  Now it definitely is getting later in the season for them, but we should still have action with them throughout September. There was a week or so of nice big fish (slammers), 20 – 40 lbers, and the past week we have had big numbers of small/medium size fish, 3 – 10 lbers (schoolies and gaffers)…[sociallocker] The blackfin tuna bite picked up about 2 weeks ago as well, it was definitely a little slow before that. We catch the blackfins on the humps (big under water sea moutains), and when they show up so do the SHARKS! We caught dusky and silky sharks last week, the biggest pushing 300 lbs. The daytime swordfish bite has been on and off this year so far. We’ve had a few good trips with multiple fish, a few trips with single fish, and then some trips with no action at all. But that’s the name of the game when trying for big ones! The reef has still been active with lots of yellowtail snapper and a couple mutton snapper mixed in as well. Send me an email if you’re looking to get out!

6-26-13 Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Report

I’ve been slammed with islamorada deep sea fishing charters the past couple of weeks and wanted to give you an honest report of what’s really been biting out there! On the reef there’s been lots of yellowtail snapper, as well as a few big mutton snapper mixed in. Offshore the mahi mahi bite has been decent to good overall. Some days are a little better than others, but we’ve been averaging about 20 fish a trip, a couple big fish (20-30 lbs) and the rest will be schoolies and a few gaffers. On the hump we have been doing very well on blackfin tuna, not a lot of big ones, but plenty of footballs in the 4-5 lb range. The daytime swordfish bite has been a little hit and miss, but we did catch 2 swords last week, both over 100 lbs, and we released a mako shark close to 200 lbs. Let me know when you’re ready to get out fishing off Islamorada and we’ll set you up.

6-3-13 Fishing in Islamorada

Well the busy season in Islamorada still continues into June. I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to post my Islamorada Fishing Reports, but here’s what I have to say for the last few weeks! We’ve had some incredible mahi fishing this year. Not every day has been great, but we’ve caught more nice size fish cows and nice bulls (15-30 lbs) this season in a month than I did all of last year! The Reef Fishing has also been great lately! We have been catching plenty of yellowtail snapper, a few mutton snappers, lots of vermillion snapper, and a few black groupers. The Permit on the wrecks have been a little tricky, but we out smarted this one a few days ago with a live crab. Offshore the Swordfish had my number for a few trips in a row, but yesterday we turned the tables on the them and caught and released 2 fish. We had 2 bites on 7 drifts. They weren’t monsters, one about 40 and one about 60 lbs. The blackfin tuna have been thin this year so far. We caught a handful of wahoo lately, some on debris offshore and one trolling about 10 days ago. As we get into summer we will continue to go offshore for mahi, tuna, and swordfish. The reef should still provide action, but if the water gets really clean (as it does often in the summer) the fish do get tougher to catch. 5-12-13 Fishing in Islamorada

Hey Everybody! Sorry I’ve been slacking on my Islamorada Fishing Report the last few weeks. My excuse it that I have been fishing 6 days a week and haven’t had much time to get on the computer. The overall bite has been pretty good though! We have had some really good days on mahi and a handful of decent days. The reef fishing for snapper has been great too. We have been catching 30 to 40 yellowtail snapper most trips, and a couple mutton snapper have been mixed in to. We’ve caught a few swordfish the last few weeks as well. One trip yielded two broadbill and the other two trips both produced one. As we approach the summer months we will focus more on mahi and deep water bottom fish, like this barrel fish we caught the other day, as well as swordfish. We also had a great day finding a piece of wood two weeks ago where we caught 7 wahoo up to 15 lbs off of it as well as 20 mahi up to 22 lbs.
